| I am about to visit Holy Island on friday 12th june 2009 and we were asked to do some research... and i actually found the meaning of lindisfarne.
Lindis= river farne=retreat ED: That's a really close result, Jake. Well done, the Lindis is now called the Low, and is the river you will be crossing when you visit the Island. I am not sure what Lindis means but a Scandinavian visitor told me that it might be the name of or for a small peninsular in Norway where our Vikings came from. | 09/6/09

| Ever thought of bringing the Gospels back?
Stupid question normally, but after the announcement of the 3 months in 7 years by The British Museum is it a possibility?
No doubt there might have been attempts over the years but all I'm asking is, is it a possibility?.
Why should they go to Durham?
Thanks.
Dave. ED: We do not have the resources (buildings, air conditioning, security etc..) on the Island to cope with the most valuable book in the country. It is best looked after in a Museum. And in Northumbria where better than north of the Tynne - Newcastle! | 27/3/09
