A Desert in the Ocean

A Desert in the Ocean
God's Call to Adventurous Living

The notion of seeking a desert in the oceam would not have seemed at all fanciful to the Celtic mind. What greater longing could there be, after all, than to enter fully into the eternal in the midst of the everyday?

In a series of meditations and exercises based on the poem attributed to St.Brendan the Navigator, David Adam invites us to consider whether God is calling us to live more adventurously, to extend ourselves, to seek new horizons.

The otherworld was always near to the Celtic mind. It breaks into our world even now. It is surely when we embrace it, when we look beyond the obvious and reach for the invisible, when we really trust God for everything, that we may hope to find 'a desert in the ocean' of our own.

DAVID ADAM is the much loved vicar of Holy Island, Northumberland, and author of many best-selling books.
